Time magazine has included Prime Minister Abiy on its list of the most influential people of 2019. The West has welcomed these Abiy’s reforms and heralded them as a democratic transformation. However, some political analysts note that these reforms are fragile. Increasing ethnic tensions, a struggling economy and the slow implementation of electoral reforms is threatening this transformation.
