At the 9th Annual Victory of the Battle of Adwa Commemoration Dinner, held in Washington DC, the Crown Council of Ethiopia honored and conferred medals on renowned individuals who have, through their works, have contributed significantly to the promotion, development, and expansion of Ethiopian arts, literature, history, politics, education, and social justice.
Among the honorees, were the founder of TSEHAI, Elias Wondimu; President of Loyola Marymount University, Timothy Law Snyder; Senior Vice-President for Student Affairs, Elena (Lane) Bove; and Director of the Marymount Institute, Professor Theresia de Vroom, who received the Victory of Adwa Centenary Medal.
Other awardees included renowned Ethiopian musicians Mahmoud Ahmed, known as the king of Ethiopian Tizita music; Maritu Legesse, known as the queen of Ethiopian Ambassel music; and Dr. Aklilu Habte, the first Ethiopian president of Addis Ababa University during the reign of Haile Selassie.
